Neuhaus Castle, the former residence of the Paderborn prince bishops, is considered an important early work of the Weser Renaissance and is therefore one of the main sights in the Paderborn region.
The construction of the palace began as early as the 13th century, and in the 16th century it was expanded into today's four-wing complex with four round corner towers and moats (moats).
The majority of the complex serves as a school. The residence museum in the Remter and the representative rooms show the structural and social development of the palace and the Neuhaus district.
Two museums can be found in the baroque stables from the 18th century. The art museum houses the municipal art collections, which mainly consist of exhibits of paintings and graphics from the 20th century. The exhibition of the Natural History Museum deals with the nature of the Paderborner Land.
The geographical location, geology, typical habitats, animal and plant world and a journey through the geological ages are presented in a vivid manner. The municipal gallery in the riding hall built in 1825 shows changing exhibitions from the areas of painting and graphics from the 16th to the 20th century. Every year from May to October there are numerous events in the baroque garden as part of the "SchlossSommer".
The baroque garden is adjoined by the 42-hectare palace and floodplain park, a popular destination for young and old with museums, restaurants, walking paths, playgrounds and a mini golf course.
