The aeronautical museum association Rothenburg e.V., founded in 1992, aims to maintain and impart aeronautical knowledge.
An association was founded on May 20, 1992 by 18 aviation enthusiasts, mainly former technicians and mechanics of the squadrons in Rothenburg and Bautzen.
Rescue of the 152nd
An important goal was to preserve the fuselage fuselage of the first German jet-powered passenger aircraft - the "152" from VEB Flugzeugwerk Dresden - which had been stored on the grounds of Rothenburg airfield since the 1960s. This fuselage (construction number 11) was the last remaining original fuselage of a "152". More about the history of the fuselage under 'History of the Rothenburg "152"'
Structure of the museum
Another goal of the association is the preservation of aviation technology as a contemporary witness to the development of technology. With the support of the Bundeswehr's command post at the Rothenburg location, but also with the help of Aerotec Rothenburg and Flugplatz Rothenburg GmbH, a permanent exhibition was established, which is now the Rothenburg Aviation Museum. Most of the aircraft last used in the NVA and some helicopters as well as various engines and other exhibits could be preserved for posterity. This was favored by the fact that all NVA aircraft from the southern area of ??the GDR were collected and demilitarized in Rothenburg.
