“The hunter Carl Lissack was shot dead by poachers on September 5, 1864,” says the column
Carl Lissack was a hunter and forester once in the service of Baron von Eckardstein. On September 5, 1864, he was murdered by a gang of three poachers while walking through the area. And at that very point, on the way from the Leuenberg train station to Heidekrug, about 500 meters north of the Chaussee from Prötzel to Tiefensee, von Eckardstein had a memorial erected for his loyal forest official. It was shaped like a broken column standing on a pedestal. The inscription read: "On September 5, 1864, the hunter Karl-Lissack was shot by poachers at this point."
